LOGISTICS AND TRANS-EUROPEAN NETWORKS
TEN-T NETWORK
The Port of Huelva is a Core port of the Basic European Transport Network.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Port of Huelva is a Core port of the Basic European Transport Network (Core Network) integrated in the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T) for both rail (freight transport) and road through the Atlantic Corridor, constituting the maritime-terrestrial node that links the land part of the Atlantic Corridor with the Canary Islands. Likewise, the Port of Huelva is connected to the Mediterranean Corridor through its Majarabique railway platform located in the municipality of Seville.

INTERMODALITY
PROVISION OF INTERMODALITY SERVICES TO TRANSPORT LOGISTICS CHAINS
STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK
The mission of the Port of Huelva is to provide intermodality services to transport logistics chains by managing the provision of infrastructures, land and other resources (economic, financial and human) for industrial, commercial and other service activities, which promote the socio-economic development of its area of influence (hinterland).
On this basis, the Port’s Strategic Plan, which contains a vision towards the year 2022, explicitly identifies the improvement of the Port’s connectivity and intermodality as a determining factor which has led the Port to focus on its development, especially with regard to rail transport.

The strategic relevance of intermodality in the Port of Huelva is currently based on four key pillars:
- The Port’s rail infrastructure and connectivity, which will allow more sustainable and efficient access to maritime transport.
- The Majarabique Intermodal Railway Platform, located in Seville and owned by the Port Authority of Huelva.
- The Multimodal Platform of the Port of Huelva, co-financed by the CEF Programme (Connecting Europe Facility) and located in the South Quay of the Port with direct connection to the maritime container terminal.
- The Logistics Activity Zone, currently being planned, which will allow the confluence of different types of companies and activities that provide continuity, quality services, transformation and added value to the transport chains that converge in the port area.
Through this intermodality strategy, the Port of Huelva is highlighting its role as a key node in the TEN-T network at the service of global logistics chains for the transport of goods, with a firm commitment to providing an efficient, integrated, safe and sustainable service.
RAIL CONNECTIVITY
In the development of its Intermodal Strategy, the Port of Huelva, with more than 40 million euros of railway investments during the period 2008-2020, has been working intensively both inside and outside the port services area.
Internally, there is currently a high quality rail network, which includes the Multimodal Platform of the South Quay and the Solid Bulk Unloading Dock. In a complementary manner, efforts are not only being directed towards the development of infrastructures, but the Port of Huelva, aware of the importance of integrating these with new technologies, is constantly working on the optimisation of the signalling and control system to offer the greatest efficiency and effectiveness in the operations carried out.

Externally, the Port of Huelva, in the Atlantic Corridor, has excellent rail connectivity with Extremadura and the Mediterranean Corridor, both through its Majarabique rail terminal (located in Seville), which is an integrated project with its maritime terminal and is considered a true «extension» of the same, and through the Huelva-Zafra rail line.
These efforts have resulted in the global logistics chains observing with great interest how the Port of Huelva is growing in its hinterland, with 2,600 rail operations, of which more than 350 are regular container traffic with Seville and Madrid.
MAJARABIQUE INTERMODAL PLATFORM
Majarabique constitutes for the Port Authority of Huelva an Intermodal Logistics Platform fully integrated with its maritime terminal, being considered a true extension of it.
COLD HUB
MULTIMODAL PLATFORM SOUTH QUAY
The South Quay Multimodal Platform is the multimodal terminal adjacent to the container and South Quay terminals, guaranteeing intermodal connectivity from the terminal itself. It was born as a CEF project and is now a reality.
LOGISTICS ACTIVITY ZONE
The Logistics Activity Zone (ZAL) project, essential for the future development of the Port of Huelva and its entire area of influence, will have a surface area of approximately 60 hectares, with the possibility of expansion, and will be located in Punta del Sebo, a place with available land with services and good road and rail accessibility.
