The archive is both the building that houses the documents produced and administered by the Port Authority of Huelva along its history, the documents per se and the service they provide to the administration, research and culture.

Its function is to collect, preserve, organize, guard, and disseminate the Documentary Heritage, facilitating its access and consultation by the interested parties, preserving the rights of the institution and citizens. We also have to highlight its role for cultural dynamization, by promoting the dissemination and knowledge of its history, which is the history of the city.

The Building

The Historical Archive of the Port of Huelva is located in the Reception and Documentation Center divided into two floors, which makes up the area devoted for archive and library.

The Archive is relevant for being: the workplace for archivists, the documentary deposit and consultation rooms where the historical background of the institution is located, with more than 4000 linear metres of shelving and approximately 9,000 organized and computerized bundles.

Digital archive

Currently, the archive consists of a database of over 200,000 digitized photographs. It is also undertaking a similar Project with the collection of plans, which is characterized by its quantitative and qualitative richness. Both are available to be consulted, assisted by tables of contents and topographic charts.

Library and newspaper library

The Archive of the Port of Huelva consists of a book collection and an auxiliary newspaper library, both very interesting and completely catalogued and computerized, well known for its technical port nature. Logically, being a maritime and port entity, the works compounding its bibliographic heritage are specifically related to this theme: Port Facilities, shipping, maritime law, dams, dredging, lighthouses, boats, fishing, etc.

Likewise, it includes titles belonging to the construction of docks and bridges, as well as to the local and port history. Specifically, the library consists of more than 4,200 volumes. Also noteworthy are the periodical publications the Port Authority of Huelva, more than seventy titles. The Archive is also fitted with a complete collection of Official Gazettes of the State, former Gazette of Madrid, almost since the constitution of the Board of Works of the Port, together with dictionaries and Records of law and jurisprudence. Access

The access to the documents is free, except for those restrictions established by current legislation and those derived from the conservation thereof.

To consult the archive, an application form including the researcher's personal data and object of study must be filled out.

Office hours: Monday to Friday from 9 to 14 hours.
