At the port of Huelva, we are resolved to break down the physical and psychological barriers that have traditionally separated the port from society. We believe that citizens must identify their port as a driving force for economy and development.
One of the objectives of the Strategic Plan of the Port of Huelva 2012-2017, with a view to 2022, is to "Achieve a recognised and valued image in the area around the port of Huelva". To achieve this, one of the initiatives is to "Open up and integrate the port in the city through guided tours to see the port, its history, its business and its social, economic and environmental contribution".
The port of Huelva wants citizens to know that the port is theirs and that they should feel that it is theirs. As a result, it is pleased to provide citizens with the following programme of visits to the port area:
Monument to Columbus or the Faith of Discovery
The Monument to Columbus or the Faith of Discovery, which stands 37 m high, is one of the most representative symbols of the city of Huelva.
The "Headland of El Sebo" was the place chosen by the sculptor and designer, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, to erect this colossus, donated by the Columbus Memorial Fund Inc.
Opening times: Every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 13:00 p.m.
Lighthouses of Mazagón and El Rompido
The port of Huelva is one of the parties responsible for lighting up the coasts and emitting shipping signals to help shipping around the coastal area of Huelva. Accordingly, the lighthouses in Huelva comply with the requirements set forth in the Shipping Signals Plan of 1847.
The port of Huelva is aware of its responsibility regarding the legacy represented by lighthouses as unique buildings linked to the historical memory of our coasts and whose beams have guided so many men and women of the sea.
